Pathologist Assistant I
United Health Services (UHS) is seeking a skilled Pathologists' Assistant to play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Work closely with experienced pathologists in the preparation and examination of surgical specimens at UHS Wilson Medical Center in the Histology department.
About the role
This dynamic position offers the opportunity to perform precise gross examinations and dissections of surgical specimens, ensuring every detail is captured. You will assist with daily operations of the gross room, maintain compliance with NYSDOH, CAP, and CDC standards, and collaborate with pathologists and clinical professionals to deliver timely, accurate specimen analyses.
Responsibilities
- Perform gross examinations and dissections of surgical specimens.
- Assist with daily operations of the gross room to maintain efficient workflow.
- Ensure compliance with NYSDOH, CAP, and CDC standards.
- Collaborate with pathologists and clinical professionals to deliver accurate specimen analyses.
- Maintain accurate records and manage lab tools and supplies.
- Support technical staff to ensure the lab is stocked and operational.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or a related science with at least three years of supervised on-the-job training OR a degree from an NCCLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant training program.
- NYS License as a Pathologists’ Assistant.
Qualifications
- ASCP Certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant [PA(ASCP)CM] (preferred).
- Additional certifications such as Certified Histological Technician, Clinical Laboratory Technician, or Licensed Clinical Laboratory Technologist are a bonus.

Schedule
- Day rotational shift.
- 40 regular scheduled weekly hours.
