The Role
To be successful in this role, you will possess strong anatomical knowledge, exceptional attention to detail, and a meticulous approach to specimen handling and processing.
As our Pathologist Assistant, you will perform crucial technical and clerical activities in the processing of tissues and body fluids for examination and diagnosis by the pathologist. Your precision and attention to detail will be vital to diagnostic accuracy.
- Conducts gross examination and dissection of surgical and autopsy specimens under the direct or indirect supervision of a pathologist.
- Obtains and reviews pertinent clinical information and history, including imaging studies, laboratory, and operative records.
- Reviews cases and history with surgeons, clinicians, and pathologists, as required.
- Collaborates with histology technicians to meet reporting turn-around time goals by ensuring prompt specimen receipts, accessioning, and processing of submitted pathology specimens.
- Performs frozen sectioning processing and assists intraoperative consultations per department standards.
- Obtains samples for research and other ancillary studies. Ensures proper specimen handling and fixation prior to processing.
Requirements
- Bachelor's of Science with curriculum which qualifies for high complexity testing Under CLIA and 3 years clinical experience
- Completion of HSS approved clinical laboratory training program or >3 months documented training in the speciality in which the high complexity testing is performed
