Patent Agent - Chemical Arts

Position Details

• Meet with clients and inventors to understand new ideas and inventions
• Evaluate the patentability of innovations
• Research to determine the scope of protection claims by the inventor
• Prepare, draft, and file patent applications
• Prepare letters of instruction to foreign counsel for US patent applications
• Reply to communications from patent offices during the patent application process
• Work closely with attorneys and in-house counsel
• Perform research and analysis, and provide guidance on a variety of patent and IP-related issues
• Maintain and manage documentation processes relating to patent laws, regulations, and procedures
• Adhere to a standard of ethics
• Participate in special projects and other duties assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
• Must be a member of the U.S. patent bar
• Minimum of 1 year of patent drafting and prosecution experience required
• Strong technical proficiency (Microsoft products, legal databases)
• Strong verbal and written communications skills
• Analytical thinker
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Detail oriented
• Effective time management and personal organization
• High sense of urgency
• Must be able to work efficiently under pressure and in a deadline-oriented environment
