Pastry Chef - Uchi Salt Lake City (Come train with us!)
About the role
Hai Hospitality (Uchi, Uchiko, and Uchiba) is seeking an experienced Pastry Sous Chef to join the opening team at Uchi Salt Lake City. The position involves motivating, mentoring, and developing a pastry team, maintaining high standards in a high-volume, scratch kitchen, creating and executing pastry menus, and collaborating with the culinary leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Motivate, mentor, and develop a pastry team
- Maintain the high standards in a high-volume, scratch kitchen
- Create and execute pastry menus in line with Hai Hospitality's standards and culinary vision
- Develop innovative desserts for daily service, special events, and off-site catering
- Collaborate closely with the culinary leadership team to support overall kitchen operations
- Manage ordering, scheduling, inventory, and other administrative responsibilities
Requirements
- Experienced in high-volume, scratch kitchens
- At least 1 year of culinary leadership or management experience
- Passionate about exceptional food and creating innovative hospitality experiences
- Skilled at delivering constructive feedback and developing others
- Possess a strong work ethic
Qualifications
- Able to effectively communicate with guests and other employees
- Able to detect and identify safety issues and comply with safety guidelines and standards
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, stock inventory, and perform restocking duties
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, stoop, and reach to access various areas and items
- Able to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and in a variety of temperatures, both hot and cold
- Able to lift, push, or pull objects such as tables and chairs to reconfigure seating arrangements
- Able to use kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, such as ovens, grills, and knives
- Able to maintain a neat and organized workspace, including proper storage of supplies and cleaning of surfaces
- Able to move quickly and efficiently to respond to customer needs
- Able to work in close proximity to coworkers in a crowded kitchen or serving area
- Able to tolerate exposure to potential allergens and food odors
- Able to maintain a professional and hygienic appearance, including proper uniform and personal grooming
- Able to understand directives and communicate effectively with Leadership and coworkers

Benefits
Annual Salary: $75,000 to $80,000, depending on experience. Uchi Salt Lake City is coming soon! We are currently accepting applications from candidates who are able to temporarily relocate to one of our existing Uchi markets for paid training with travel and lodging provided. Training may take place in markets such as Austin, Denver, Scottsdale, West Hollywood, or other Uchi locations.
Pay
Annual Salary: $75,000 to $80,000, depending on experience.
