Responsibilities
- Develop, lead and/or facilitate Faith Formation activities within the church including children, youth and adult Sunday classes; youth and adult small groups; and Youth Fellowship.
- Recruit, develop and train teachers, leaders, nursery attendants and volunteers for educational programs for all ages. Foster an environment of communication to assess the ongoing needs of teachers/leaders, assess the effectiveness of programs, and maintain attendance records.
- Organize, supervise and/or facilitate children and youth outings, retreats, missions, Vacation Bible Study and any other activities where children and youth gather to support each other and deepen relationships. In coordination with the Pastors, take an active part in the Confirmation process.
- Work with the Senior Pastor, staff, and committees to align and integrate Faith Formation efforts with other church ministries. Specifically support and encourage participation in mission/outreach efforts within classes and small groups.
- Encourage children and youth participation in all facets of the life of the church and create engagement opportunities for the families of children and youth.
- Work intentionally to assimilate new church attendees and members into Faith Formation activities.
- Promote church events or other opportunities for children, youth and adults via weekly email blasts, monthly newsletters, direct emails, flyers, posters and/or social media.
- Order curriculum, study books and supplies for all classes, small groups, and Youth Fellowship and coordinate the distribution of materials.
- Maintain the Faith Formation budget and oversee expenditures for all classes, small groups and Youth Fellowship.
- Implement Safe Sanctuaries Guidelines, including background checks for all volunteers working with children and youth.
- A United Methodist Deacon, with an interest in Christian education and youth.
- 5 years of directly related experience.
- Knowledge of the Bible and United Methodist theology and social principles.
- Use a variety of spiritual resources and lead or develop Christian educational programs for all age levels (i.e. children, youth and adults).
- Ability to generate innovative and creative ideas to nurture the faith of our congregants including children, youth, families and adults. This includes developing programming that increases participation in church activities especially from children, youth and their parents.
- Ability to cultivate volunteerism from children, youth and adults.
- Versatility in verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all age levels.
- Interpersonal skills to work with a diverse group of people within the church including staff, committees, volunteers and congregants.
- Organizational and time management skills to develop short and long-term plans and supervise their execution, and to accomplish tasks on schedule.
- Competency in the use of word, excel, database entry, email, texting, website posting and the use of social media.

Pay & Benefits
Salary Range & Benefits: $65,000-$75,000 with benefits comparable to UMC Deacon positions.
