About the role
We are seeking a full-time Party Chief (Survey Technician) for our Rochester, NY office. This position reports to the manager of Land Surveying and primarily involves field work, including control, topographic, and boundary/Right of Way (ROW) surveys. There will also be times when office support is required.
Responsibilities
- Understanding and executing the scope of work for each assignment.
- Providing direction and oversight of the instrument operator.
- Ensuring proper field techniques are used, and data quality checks are taking place.
- Ensuring proper safety measures are being followed.
- Performing field reconnaissance of property & ROW evidence.
- Understanding the operation of total stations and GNSS equipment and their associated controllers and data collectors.
Requirements
- Experience with NYSDOT surveying and mapping procedures, a plus.
- Experience with Trimble robotics, a plus.
- Experience with Trimble GNSS, a plus.
- Experience with terrestrial LiDAR, a plus.
- Experience with sUAS, a plus.
- Experience with traverse and level run adjustments, a plus.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, a plus.
- Data processing/importing, DTM creation and CADD knowledge required (Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley Microstation with InRoads are both utilized).
- Ability to perform physical work (i.e., strenuous walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 pounds), carrying / loading equipment, etc.).
- A valid Driver’s license is required, with a clean driving record to operate company vehicle.
- Good communication skills are required.
- Some travel to project sites is required.

Qualifications
- 5-10+ years of experience in land surveying.
- Bachelor or an Associate degree in Land Surveying, a plus.
