About the role
DLZ Corporation is seeking a Party Chief to join our dynamic team in Columbus, OH. This position offers opportunities to lead survey crews, utilize advanced survey instruments, and mentor junior staff.
Responsibilities
- Lead a survey crew to complete control, topographic, boundary, construction layout, and utility location surveys.
- Operate advanced survey instruments including robotic total stations, automatic levels, data collectors, laser scanners, GPS, and other standard equipment to accurately gather field data.
- Interpret construction plans, perform necessary field calculations, and execute precise construction layout.
- Maintain clear, detailed, and accurate field notes.
- Efficiently upload and download survey data files and photographs.
- Ensure the proper maintenance and operation of all field survey equipment, vehicles, and supplies.
- Conduct all work with a strong commitment to safety, adhering to the Health and Safety Plan.
- Represent DLZ and its core values professionally in all interactions.
- Mentor and coach junior field crew members, fostering their growth.
- Effectively manage field work scope and schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A high school graduate or equivalent (required).
- An associate's degree or higher in Surveying & Mapping or Civil Engineering Technology (preferred).
- 3 to 5 years of progressive experience as a Survey Party Chief (required).
- Working knowledge of Trimble survey equipment and Trimble Business Center (preferred).
- Experience with construction layout and/or utility corridor projects (preferred but not required).
- Strong ability to perform basic mathematical and trigonometric calculations and understand error propagation in field surveys (required).
- Demonstrated aptitude for sound independent decision-making and providing clear direction to crew members (required).
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients, property owners, and coworkers (required).
- Ability to obtain OSHA 30 Hour Construction Safety Certification (required).
- Availability for overtime and out-of-town travel with provided per diem (required).
- Willingness to work in various weather conditions (required).
- Valid driver's license along with the ability to pass a background check, an MVR check, and a drug test (required).
Qualifications
