Parts/Stores Specialist I/II
About the role
The City of Fairfield is seeking a Parts/Stores Specialist I/II to join the Public Works Department. This role involves managing inventory operations, ensuring the availability of critical parts and supplies for various City departments and essential equipment.
Responsibilities
- Order, purchase, and acquire parts, materials, supplies, tools, and equipment for the fleet repair shop and stores.
- Utilize a specialized equipment maintenance computer program to manage inventory and operations.
- Exercise discretion within established guidelines and assist in coordinating vendor listings, purchase orders, and insurance requirements.
- Work closely with departments to establish vendor listings, purchase orders, and insurance requirements of vendors.
Requirements
- Education: Completion of twelfth grade.
- Experience: One (1) year full time experience in an automotive or truck parts store or warehouse performing vehicle parts servicing, including experience ordering, stocking, receiving and inventorying parts and related equipment.
- Additional Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible full time experience in an automotive or truck parts store or warehouse performing vehicle parts servicing, including experience ordering, stocking, receiving and inventorying parts and related equipment.
- Driver’s License: Valid Class C California Driver's License.
- OSHA Compliant Forklift Operator Certification.
- FMIS Experience: Experience using a Fleet Management Information System (FMIS) to track automotive/heavy truck parts inventory and work order billing.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Valid Class C California Driver's License.
- One (1) to less than 2 years of progressively responsible full-time experience in an automotive or truck parts store or warehouse.
- Two (2) or more years of progressively responsible full-time experience in an automotive or truck parts store or warehouse.
- OSHA Compliant Forklift Operator Certification.
- Experience using a Fleet Management Information System (FMIS).
Skills
Detail-oriented, organized, efficient, strong inventory management skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential for success in this role.
