Parts Consultant

About the role

The Parts Consultant supports the Parts Manager and parts staff by providing superior customer service and ensuring the smooth operation of the parts department. This role involves receiving, stocking, and distributing equipment and parts, as well as maintaining the appearance of the Parts Department and Ship’s Store.

Responsibilities

• Serve internal or external customers in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
• Perform stocking, issuing, receiving, and inventory control functions, including cycle counts.
• Sort and place materials and parts on racks, shelves, or in bins.
• Maintain a clean and professional store and parts department.
• Enter parts inventory information using IDS.
• Place price tags on merchandise as appropriate.
• Complete order forms and place orders with vendors and manufacturers as directed by the Parts Manager.
• Read production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved or distributed.
• Maintain good working relationships with factories and vendors regarding product and quality control.
• Special order merchandise as necessary while working with customers for the best price.
• Prepare special sales and clearance displays to move product.
• Answer customer questions concerning products.
• Inform technicians and customers of the arrival of special-order parts.
• Carefully check invoices against work orders.
• Keep parts catalogs up to date.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

• Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects, often more than 50 pounds.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and walk for long periods, sometimes up to several hours a day.
• Climbing and Balance: Ability to climb vertical ladders and navigate stairs.
• Weather Conditions: Exposure to extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold.
