Airwallex · San Francisco, CA · 2 wk ago
HybridEngineering$160k–$230k/yrFull-time

Airwallex is the only unified payments and financial platform for global businesses. Powered by proprietary infrastructure and software, we empower over 250,000 businesses worldwide with fully integrated solutions to manage business accounts, payments, spend management, treasury, and embedded finance at a global scale. Founded in Melbourne, we have a team of over 2,300 innovators across 27 offices globally, backed by leading investors including T. Rowe Price, Visa, Mastercard, and Sequoia.

About the role

You’ll work directly with startups, founders, and strategic partners to help them build on Airwallex. This role blends hands-on integration work with demo engineering—you’ll build polished reference implementations independently, while also working side-by-side with partners to co-create integrations and applications that help them get started and build internal support for Airwallex. A key part of the role is turning these engagements into high-quality reference builds and case studies that can be leveraged more broadly. You’ll identify patterns across this work, develop reusable approaches, and feed real-world insights back to Product and Engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with startups, founders, and strategic partners to design and deliver working integrations and demos on tight timelines.
  • Build polished reference implementations on your own, while also partnering directly with external teams to co-create integrations and applications that help them ship and gain internal buy-in for Airwallex.
  • Serve as a technical lead for external builder engagements, helping teams navigate our platform and make sound architectural decisions.
  • Identify patterns across partner integrations and proactively create playbooks, templates, and reusable approaches that improve speed and consistency.
  • Capture and synthesize feedback from partner work, and collaborate with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and API owners to influence priorities and improvements.
  • Contribute to how the team operates by helping define processes, raising execution quality, and supporting others who work with partners and startups.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a technical, partner- or customer-facing engineering role (Solutions Engineer, Solutions Architect, Developer Relations, or similar).
  • Strong hands-on ability to build both functional integrations and high-quality demos/reference implementations.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex technical work quickly while maintaining high quality.
  • Strong at identifying patterns and turning one-off work into scalable approaches (playbooks, templates, or processes).
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and driving outcomes with limited structure.
  • Effective at influencing cross-functional stakeholders through clear communication and credible technical insight.
  • Experience working with startups or external ecosystems is strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in payments, fintech infrastructure, or developer platforms.
  • Experience with AI agents, programmable workflows, or similar emerging use cases.
  • Track record of building demos or reference implementations that were adopted more broadly.

Attributes We Value

We hire successful builders with founder-like energy who want real impact, accelerated learning, and true ownership. You bring strong role-related expertise and sharp thinking, and you’re motivated by our mission and operating principles. You move fast with good judgment, dig deep with curiosity, and make decisions from first principles, balancing speed and rigor. You're humble and collaborative; turn zero-to-one ideas into real products, and you “get stuff done” end-to-end. You use AI to work smarter and solve problems faster.
