WOUND NP ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide wound care services for long-term care patients residing in skilled nursing facilities.
Prescribe appropriate medications, including controlled substances in accordance with AR Law.
Order, review, and/or follow-up with treatments and diagnostic testing.
Communicate with the nursing home staff on a regular and as needed to discuss changes in condition and/or the care plan.
Collaborate with the primary care physician.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Current, unrestricted NP license in the state of Arkansas.
- Board Certification.
- (Optional) DEA licensure.
- Clinical background in adult, family, or geriatric specialties.
- Clinical background of wound care; including but not limited to chronic, debilitating, stalled, or infected wounds.
- Must be comfortable with diagnosing and treating diabetic, arterial, venous, and mixed etiology wounds or Kennedy Ulcers.
- Must be comfortable staging pressure injuries according to the NPIAP.
- Must be familiar with wound care best practice and advanced wound care products; collagens, alginates, foams, silvers, etc.
- Must have experience with wound vacs and other DME, such as pressure relieving/ reducing devices.
- Strong preference to having wound certification or be open to getting certified.
- Experience working in a long-term care setting.
- Able to work with an EMR.
- Able to work within an interdisciplinary care team to coordinate patient care.
