WOUND NP ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide wound care services for long-term care patients residing in skilled nursing facilities.
  • Prescribe appropriate medications, including controlled substances in accordance with KY Law.
  • Order, review, and/or follow-up with treatments and diagnostic testing.
  • Communicate with the nursing home staff on a regular and as needed to discuss changes in condition and/or the care plan.
  • Collaborate with the primary care physician.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A current, unrestricted NP license in the state of Kentucky.
  • Board Certification.
  • DEA licensure (Optional).
  • A clinical background in adult, family, or geriatric specialties.
  • A clinical background of wound care; including but not limited to chronic, debilitating, stalled, or infected wounds.
  • Comfortable with diagnosing and treating diabetic, arterial, venous, and mixed etiology wounds or Kennedy Ulcers.
  • Comfortable staging pressure injuries according to the NPIAP.
  • Familiarity with wound care best practice and advanced wound care products; collagens, alginates, foams, silvers, etc.
  • Familiarity with wound vacs and other DME, such as pressure relieving/ reducing devices.
  • Strong preference to having wound certification or be open to getting certified.
  • Experience working in a long-term care setting.
  • Ability to work with an EMR.
  • Ability to work within an interdisciplinary care team to coordinate patient care.
