About the role
Johnstone Supply, North America's leading wholesale distributor of HVACR equipment, parts, and supplies, offers a Part-Time Will Call/Counter Flex position that flexes between material handler and counter sales responsibilities. This role is key to providing contractors with world-class products, technical expertise, and quality service through our network of over 470 distributor branches and 6 distribution centers.
Responsibilities
- Service customers’ needs at the Will Call counter and front sales counter by providing friendly, accurate, and prompt fulfillment of orders.
- Receive product into the warehouse; inspect freight for damage, verify quantity ordered, and check shipments against packing lists using an RF scanner.
- Replenish stock, including re-stocking picking stock, filling bin boxes, facing cartons, storing pallets, and rotating product as needed.
- Fill customer orders by picking products using an RF scanner, ensuring accuracy by scanning barcodes, and packing products into cartons or pallets.
- Handle customer warranty claims and credit returns by completing all appropriate documentation and processing claims in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Enter sales orders into the Sales Order Entry System and process credit card or cash payments according to SOPs.
- Answer incoming customer telephone calls, providing quotes, taking sales orders, researching products/services, and answering general information questions.
- Maintain min/max flow of product in the showroom and displays by stocking merchandise, facing shelves, organizing product, removing litter, dusting, and cleaning shelves.
- Balance individual daily sales transactions to payments received according to the company’s cash handling policy.
- Identify damaged inventory and bring it to the attention of store leadership for mark-down and quick sale.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and professional personal appearance.
- Attend training seminars on products and services to acquire more product knowledge.
- Perform all other duties as assigned, adhering to company values and offering services wherever necessary to ensure success.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1+ years of related experience and/or training in a wholesale/retail environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience operating a forklift and other warehouse equipment safely and competently.
- Forklift certification required, or willingness to obtain on the job.
- Basic computer skills, including knowledge of inventory management systems and office software (e.g., email programs, Internet browsers).
- Ability to read, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Skill in operating power equipment, including forklift, pallet jack, and cherry picker.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver large/heavy products or equipment (up to 50 pounds, with mechanical or team assistance for heavier items).
- Familiarity with warehouse or distribution center management systems and order picking processes.
- Strong customer service skills; ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in dealing with others and maintain relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (multilingual skills are valued but not required).
- Problem-solving skills: listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a picker, RF scanner, and inventory management systems.
- Knowledge of the HVAC wholesale industry, principles, and practices.
- Previous experience with OSHA and safety regulations and procedures.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk on a concrete floor for much of the workday.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Frequently required to lift and carry and/or move up to 50 pounds; heavier items require mechanical assistance or team support.
- For driving duties (if applicable), required to sit for long periods and may experience bouncing and vibration.
- Frequently required to talk or hear.
- Special vision requirements include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and color vision.
