(Part-time) Welding Instructor

Pay

All Temporary Part-time Instructors are compensated a salaried flat rate ranging from $59.19 to $84.20 per clock hour taught each semester in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

• Meet classes/laboratories as assigned within the academic calendar, including intersessions and summer sessions.
• Develop and implement instruction for each class and laboratory period, consistent with the official course outline and District guidelines.
• Maintain online course components for online and hybrid courses, including asynchronous or synchronous content delivery.
• Provide regular student-student and student-instructor contact for online and hybrid courses.
• Develop and distribute a syllabus for each course during the first week of class, outlining course description, objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements per District guidelines.
• Provide regular, timely feedback to students and return graded work promptly.
• Assign final grades in accordance with District policy, administrative procedures, California Education Code, and Title 5.
• Demonstrate respect for student rights as specified in District policy and applicable laws.
• Submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials in a timely manner, considering cost to students.
• Refer students to tutoring and related student services when appropriate.
• Supervise students in off-campus activities when required as part of a course or instructor’s load.
• Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
• Participate in professional development to remain current in the assigned discipline.
• Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes, in a timely and accurate manner.
• Fulfill discipline-specific classroom responsibilities as assigned.
• Participate in the evaluation process as described in the faculty collective bargaining agreement.
• Continue developing professional skills and remain current in subject matter knowledge.
• Keep and submit official records required by District policy and administrative procedures.
• Abide by District policies concerning property and safety.
• Report absences due to illness or personal necessity to the supervising administrator.
• Recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment as needed.
• Fulfill all obligations established in the current collective bargaining agreement.

Additional Activities

Part-time faculty are encouraged, but not required, to engage in the following activities. Some may be eligible for flex pay or stipends:

• Schedule and maintain office hours, clearly communicated to students and division staff.
• Participate in participatory governance through District committees.
• Engage in the curriculum review process and develop new courses in response to student or community needs.
• Participate in program review and annual planning within established cycles.
• Attend and participate in department and division meetings.
• Assess learning outcomes and participate in learning outcomes processes.
• Participate in required professional development activities to improve pedagogy and student success.

• Broad preparation and depth of knowledge in the discipline.
• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment promoting innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
• Ability to work with students of varying skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
• Ability to design and deliver courses in different modalities (e.g., in-person, online, hybrid).
• Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency.
• Ability to assess student learning outcomes.
• Knowledge of and willingness to explore new technologies and teaching practices benefiting students and programs.
• Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.
• Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.

Education and Experience

Any of the following:

• A bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience.
• An associate degree and six years of professional experience.
• Equivalent qualifications demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities conferred in the degree program.

Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.

Equivalency Qualifications

Applicants who do not meet the minimum education requirement may still qualify if they demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities through a combination of education and experience. Candidates must formally request equivalency consideration and provide evidence demonstrating equivalency prior to the closing date. The Equivalency Committee will review all submitted documents and approve or disapprove equivalency following established guidelines.
