About the role

Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Welding Instructor to join our team. The instructor will be responsible for delivering comprehensive welding training to individuals on BPCC campuses and at various correctional facilities throughout Northwest Louisiana. The ideal candidate will emphasize safety and proper equipment handling in all lessons, ensuring students acquire the necessary skills to weld proficiently and safely in various industrial and commercial environments. This role requires a high degree of flexibility in scheduling and a willingness to travel to various training locations.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches assigned welding technology courses, and associated labs in accordance with the college’s workload policy.
  • Maintains written instructional standards.
  • Facilitates instruction in accordance with instructional standards using alternative delivery methods as needed.
  • Posts and maintains office hours in accordance with policy.
  • Maintains familiarity and adherence to school policy.
  • Participates in the assessment and development of student learning outcomes.
  • Establishes, maintains, and submits accurate student and instructional records in a timely manner.
  • Affixes and updates course outlines, textbooks, laboratories, and course procedure sheets for welding technology courses.
  • Assists in the preparation of course proposals, curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools.
  • Applies and maintains standards of quality operating methods, processes, systems, and procedures such as and in accordance with AWS and ASME welding codes and standards.
  • Implements changes as necessary to maintain a successful welding technology program.
  • Integrates knowledge of customers, competitors, other industries, industry groups, and professional training to continuously improve program quality.
  • Works as part of an instructional team by participating in welding technology course scheduling, department, division, and college meetings.
  • Serves on college committees as assigned.
  • Works to maintain the integrity of department curriculum.
  • Maintains partnerships with local area employers to assist in arranging field experiences for program students.
  • Collaborates with college community and area high schools in support of welding technology events and competitions.
  • Assists in recruiting students and supporters to the program.
  • Participates in job fairs, recruiting events, and other special events related to the welding technology program.
  • Maintains equipment and supply inventory.
  • Act as advisers to student organizations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
  • Advise students on academic and vocational curricula, and career planning.
  • Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.

Requirements

  • Possess demonstrated proficiency in performing structural welds and demonstrates the ability to teach this information to students using current pedological practices.
  • Possess working knowledge of a student information system and/or knowledge of microcomputer/software applications.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation, ability to travel to various locations within Northwest Louisiana, flexible schedule to accommodate training sessions at different times and locations.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing structural welds and demonstrating the ability to teach this information to students using current pedological practices.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment with both small and large groups.
  • Ability to work with a diverse, non-traditional, and traditionally underserved population.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of a student information system and/or knowledge of microcomputer/software applications.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and written, at all levels.
  • Proven ability to present a positive image for the college, maintain professional demeanor, provide effective customer service, and make good decisions.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations needed to complete job tasks.
  • Skilled at planning, organizing, and prioritizing job duties to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain interpersonal professional working relationships at all levels—students, peers, and executives.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment and networked personal computers.
  • Proficiency in or ability to become proficient in a variety of software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office.
  • Work daily shifts Monday through Friday with occasional weekends and after hours as required.
  • Travel as required as well as work at different campuses or locations as required.
  • Pass a background check as required by Bossier Parish Community College.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, and handle or feel objects and controls.
  • Must have physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment such as, but not limited to, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
  • Frequent (50% or more) sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch as required for filing and storage of office supplies and other work-related equipment.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 70 pounds.
  • Skilled at planning, organizing, and prioritizing job duties to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain interpersonal professional working relationships at all levels—students, peers, and executives.
  • Proficiency in the use of standard office equipment and networked personal computers.
  • Proficiency in or ability to become proficient in a variety of software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office.
