About the Role
The position involves performing Operating Room (OR) scheduling, data entry for patient charges, and maintaining accurate records to ensure proper revenue. The role requires professional communication with surgeons, staff, patients, and families, along with cross-training across departments such as front desk, billing, and scheduling. Emphasis is placed on adherence to safety, courtesy, quality, and efficiency standards while supporting patient care and hospital operations.
Responsibilities
- Schedule surgeries and manage OR and anesthesia records.
- Perform data entry for patient charges and verify accuracy.
- Coordinate with hospital departments, including specimen delivery and imaging requests.
- Answer multi-line phones and process and communicate information efficiently.
- Maintain patient and OR records with precision.
- Manage supplies and support the efficient functioning of the unit.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and ensure compliance with policies.
- Act as a preceptor and uphold the organization’s core standards of safety, courtesy, quality, and efficiency.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of medical secretary experience.
- Proficiency with 10-key calculators and typing skills (30 WPM or extensive computer use).
- Strong communication skills and professionalism.
- Ability to interpret procedures and maintain dependability.
Qualifications & Skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology and billing systems (preferred).
- Experience in cross-training across departments such as front desk, billing, and scheduling.
