Part-Time Visitor Services Associate

About the role

The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State is seeking a part-time Visitor Services Associate. This is a front-line position responsible for establishing initial interactions with visitors to the museum to ensure that all feel welcome, supported, and informed about museum offerings.

Responsibilities

• Checking in visitors
• Informing visitors about museum policies and current activities
• Promoting museum programs and membership
• Assisting with wayfinding
• Conducting visitor surveys
• Assisting with cleaning/maintaining interactive displays and resources
• Providing services to accommodate groups and persons with disabilities
• Performing additional customer service duties as assigned for museum events and projects
• Assisting visitors with Penn State-based inquiries and wayfinding as needed

Schedule

• Thursdays, 4:00‑8:00 p.m.
• Fridays, 2:00‑5:00 p.m.
• Saturdays, 10:30 a.m.‑5:00 p.m.
• Additional hours may become available to cover evening events or shift coverage for coworkers during museum operating hours (Wednesdays through Sundays)

Pay

The starting rate of this position is $15 per hour.

Requirements

• Previous experience in a customer service role
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including sensitivity to multiculturalism and diversity
• Ability to work with a wide variety of people, including students, faculty, staff, community members, and volunteers

Skills

• Experience with Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Excel, and Word
• Experience in an arts, non‑profit, or educational setting is a plus
