(Part-time) Temporary, Assistant Instructor - Associate Degree Nursing

Pay
All Temporary Part-time Instructors are compensated a salaried flat rate ranging from $59.19 to $84.20 per clock hour taught each semester, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Responsibilities
- Meet classes/laboratories as assigned within the academic calendar, including intersessions and summer sessions.
- Develop and implement instruction for each class and laboratory period, consistent with the official course outline and District guidelines.
- Maintain online course components for online and hybrid courses, including asynchronous or synchronous content delivery.
- Provide regular student-student and student-instructor contact for online and hybrid courses.
- Develop and distribute a syllabus for each course during the first week of class, outlining course description, objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements.
- Provide regular, timely feedback to students and return all graded work promptly.
- Assign final grades in accordance with District policy, administrative procedures, California Education Code, and Title 5.
- Demonstrate respect for student rights as specified in District policy and applicable laws.
- Submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials in a timely manner, considering cost to students.
- Refer students to tutoring and related student services when appropriate.
- Supervise students in off-campus activities when required as part of a course or instructor’s load.
- Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
- Participate in professional development to remain current in the assigned discipline.
- Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes, in a timely and accurate manner.
- Fulfill discipline-specific classroom responsibilities as assigned.
- Participate in the evaluation process as described in the faculty collective bargaining agreement.
- Continue to develop professional skills and remain current in subject matter knowledge.
- Keep and submit official records required by District policy and administrative procedures.
- Abide by District policies concerning District property and safety.
- Report absences due to illness or personal necessity to the supervising administrator.
- Recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment as needed.
- Fulfill all obligations as established in the current collective bargaining agreement.
Additional Activities (Optional)
Part-time faculty are encouraged to engage in the following activities, though they are not required. Some may be eligible for flex pay or stipends:
- Schedule and maintain office hours, ensuring they are clearly communicated to students and division staff.
- Participate in participatory governance through District committees.
- Engage in the curriculum review process and develop new courses in response to student or community needs.
- Participate in program review and annual planning within established cycles.
- Attend and participate in department and division meetings.
- Assess learning outcomes and participate in learning outcomes processes.
- Participate in required professional development activities that improve pedagogy and student success.

- Ability to design and deliver courses in different modalities (e.g., in-person, online, hybrid).
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.

- Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency.
- Ability to assess student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of and willingness to explore new technologies and teaching practices that benefit students and programs.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of professional experience OR the equivalent.
- Eligible for approval from the Board of Registered Nursing at the Assistant Instructor level.
- Meet clinical competency requirements and approval to supervise students in assigned clinical settings.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.

The state of California has established minimum qualifications for academic positions in California Community Colleges.
