Part Time - Technology Transfer Intern - Research
JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) is seeking current Penn State students (e.g., JD, MS, MBA, PhD students) with an interest in technology transfer to join our OTT internship program. The OTT is the office that is charged with protecting and commercializing innovations developed at Penn State. The OTT internship program is open to applicants who have a background in life sciences, physical sciences, law, and/or business. This is a paid internship that requires up to 20 hours per week (up to 40 hours per week during the Summer semester). The expectation is that the technology transfer intern(s) will be hired to start on a rolling basis. Preference will be given to candidates who can commit to working with the OTT for at least one year.
Job Duties
- Drafting non-confidential technology summaries and preparing additional marketing materials for use in technology marketing campaigns (~40%)
- Aiding in the preparation of technology assessment reports to be used for internal (i.e., OTM and other Penn State stakeholders) evaluation of technologies (~25%)
- Working with TLO’s to develop technology marketing strategies and identifying contacts within target companies that could potentially license Penn State technologies (~25%)
- Additional responsibilities (~10%) could include:
- Performing market research to understand market size & competitive landscape
- Aiding with prior art searches & patentability assessments
- Other duties, as necessary and/or based upon an intern’s specific interests
Requirements And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field is preferred.
- Ideal candidates will have a background in life sciences, physical sciences, law and/or business.
- Graduate students (e.g., JD, MS, MBA, PhD students) interested in pursuing a career in technology transfer are strongly encouraged to apply; MS and PhD students must have approval from their advisors to join the OTM internship program.
- Ideal candidates will possess excellent communication skills, particularly technical writing skills for marketing purposes (i.e., clearly and concisely conveying “take-home messages” to describe Penn State technologies and relay their key benefits).
- This position will require individuals who are dedicated, dependable, highly organized, and self-motivated with excellent time-management skills to respond to competing and changing priorities.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR).
