Part-Time STEAM Instructor

About the role

Young STEAMers is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making hands-on STEAM education accessible to children from underserved communities throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. We bring engaging, inquiry-based science and engineering programs directly to partner schools, libraries, shelters, and community organizations. This position is on‑site in Union City, CA, with assignments at partner sites across Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and San Francisco counties.

Responsibilities

• Lead engaging, hands‑on STEAM lessons for students ages 4‑14
• Create a positive, inclusive, and well‑managed classroom environment
• Encourage curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, and confidence
• Follow provided lesson plans while adapting instruction to students’ needs
• Prepare for each lesson by completing the required training
• Communicate professionally with Young STEAMers staff and site partners
• Work collaboratively with a co‑instructor when assigned
• Serve as a positive role model for students

Requirements

• High school diploma required
• Classroom experience working with children ages 4‑14
• Experience as a teacher, substitute teacher, after‑school educator, or youth‑program leader
• Interest or experience in science, technology, engineering, art, math, or education
• Strong classroom‑management and communication skills
• Reliable, professional, organized, and enthusiastic
• Availability during weekday afternoon hours
• Reliable transportation and the ability to arrive on time at assigned program locations
• Ability to complete required training and prepare before teaching each lesson
• Conversational Spanish is a plus
• Teaching credential is a plus but not required
• Long‑term availability is strongly preferred

Pay

USD $20 – $30 per hour
