Part Time Special Education Complex Needs Paraprofessional - Cedar Middle School

About the role

Cedar Middle School is seeking a Part Time Special Education Complex Needs Paraprofessional to work 27.5 hours per week. The Part Time Special Education Complex Needs Paraprofessional works under the direction of the Special Education Complex Needs Teacher to provide education and related services to students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lift and support students
• Change protective clothing
• Implement behavior management plans
• Operate adaptive equipment (wheelchairs, etc.)
• Communicate effectively with students and staff
• Provide instructional support assistance to students and student groups to reinforce and follow up learning activity
• Observe and record behavior patterns and follow appropriate techniques to reinforce acceptable behavior
• Assist certified educators with the presentation of learning materials and instructional exercise
• Assist in responsibility for procedures related to physical and medical needs
• Assist students, as needed, in learning self-care techniques, including toilet training, bathing and personal cleanliness
• Assist in diapering, toilet training, feeding, and other self-help skills if needed
• Participate in the development, maintenance, and carrying out of systems for classroom management
• Guide students in working and interacting harmoniously with other students
• Supervise students in all areas of the school
• Operate various types of office equipment such as computers, copy machines, etc.
• Monitor students inside and outside of the building during lunch hour

Requirements

• Regular, reliable, predictable attendance and job performance
• Basic computer knowledge
• Familiarity with Google Docs and checking email frequently
• Willingness to learn and use all computer systems and software as needed
