KUER is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Social Media Assistant for 19 hours a week to help grow and engage our audiences across digital platforms. This entry-level position is ideal for a student, recent graduate, or early-career professional interested in media, journalism, communications, or digital marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Create and schedule social media posts for platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube
  • Assist with promoting station news stories, shows, and podcasts
  • Write engaging captions that reflect the station's voice, values, and editorial standards
  • Monitor social media channels for comments, messages, and audience engagement opportunities
  • Capture photos and short-form video during show tapings, station events, and community activities
  • Help coordinate visuals with the graphics team for social posts
  • Create vertical video and stories using tools such as Canva and Adobe Express
  • Track social media performance metrics and prepare analytics reports
  • Stay informed about social media trends and platform best practices
  • Assist with maintaining a consistent brand presence across digital channels
  • Support audience engagement efforts and special projects as assigned

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of related experience (1 year of higher education can substitute for 1 year of directly related work experience)
  • High school diploma or equivalent; current college students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and their best practices
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for public media, journalism, community engagement, and storytelling
  • Basic photography and smartphone video skills
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
  • Passion for community-focused storytelling and audience engagement

Preferences

  • Coursework or experience in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, media studies, or a related field
  • Experience managing personal, school, nonprofit, or business social media accounts
  • Knowledge of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar content creation tools
  • Familiarity with social media scheduling platforms such as Buffer or similar programs
