All employees are expected to greet guests warmly and ensure each feels valued.

About the Organization

Opened in fall 2018, Carpenter Hotel is a South Austin retreat nestled in an old pecan grove near Zilker Park. The hotel features 93 rooms with private terraces, a pool with a community deck, and the Q Hut pavilion. Guests can enjoy fare from the all-day Coffee Bar or dine at Carpenters Hall, the on-site restaurant with patio and indoor seating. The location offers easy access to Lady Bird Lake, downtown Austin, and local attractions.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all operational standards, policies, and procedures as outlined in training materials and verbal instructions.
  • Escort customers to tables, present menus, and answer questions about menu items, including ingredients and preparation methods.
  • Describe and recommend wines, check IDs for alcohol service, and explain daily specials.
  • Take and transmit food and beverage orders accurately, either manually or via computer systems.
  • Serve food and beverages, prepare specialty dishes, and ensure guests’ special needs (e.g., dietary restrictions, splitting dishes) are met.
  • Garnish and decorate dishes, assist with food running, and monitor order times to inform guests of delays.
  • Suggest desserts or coffee at the end of meals and prepare itemized checks for payment.
  • Clear and clean tables, reset them for new guests, and restock service areas with supplies (e.g., linens, tableware, condiments).
  • Perform food and beverage preparation duties, such as brewing coffee, chilling wine, portioning desserts, and preparing salads or appetizers.
  • Pour wine and ensure open communication with all departments and management to meet hotel needs.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and equipment in the work area, adhering to OSHA requirements and emergency procedures.
  • Attend meetings and perform additional tasks as needed to support fluctuating operational demands.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Six months of related experience in hospitality or the service industry.
  • TABC and ServeSafe certification required.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in the primary language(s) of the workplace.
  • Proficiency in writing reports, correspondence, and basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Familiarity with computer programs, including Property Management Systems and Point of Sale systems.
