Part Time School Support Assistant - Morning or Afternoon

About the Role

The City Garden Montessori School Support Assistant is a vital role within the classroom community, serving as a “floater” to fill in wherever needed each school day. This part-time position requires someone experienced and comfortable with adapting to changing daily responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• General School Support:
  • Provide daily classroom support to lead teachers as directed by the Principal and Building Operations Manager.
  • Offer behavior and physical support to students, including bathroom assistance for preschool and/or special needs students.
  • Act as a “utility player” throughout the building, providing support as determined by administration.
  • Serve as a positive, nurturing role model for students.
  • Uphold professional and ethical standards when interacting with students, parents, staff, and the community, following school rules and standards.
  • Safely supervise students during instructional and assessment activities, both in and out of the classroom.
• Lunch Service (if assigned):
  • Assist the Food Service Coordinator with preparation and cleanup of food service areas (no cooking required).
  • Accept food deliveries at specified locations.
  • Prepare plates of food for students and deliver lunch to classrooms.
  • Maintain kitchen sanitation and adhere to DESE food service guidelines and state health code regulations.
• Before-Care (if assigned):
  • Facilitate breakfast service.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records following check-in procedures.
  • Safely supervise students, using good judgment in handling behavioral, safety, and instructional situations.
• Aftercare Enrichment (if assigned):
  • Facilitate activities for students.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records for check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Safely supervise students indoors and outdoors, managing behavioral, safety, and instructional situations.
  • Track and store all equipment and materials used in after-care.

Schedule

All days that school is in session, typically Monday through Friday. Hours: Morning - 7:00 am to 11:00 am/12:00 pm, Afternoon - 12:00/1:00 pm to 4:00/5:00 pm.

Qualifications

• High School graduate with at least 12 hours of post-secondary education, Associate’s degree preferred, OR
• High school graduate with substitute teaching certification from the Missouri DESE.
• At least one year of experience working with young students in a supervised setting (school, YMCA, community center, day camp, etc.).
• Flexible and adaptable to changing work requirements.
• Resourceful problem-solver committed to whole-child education and meeting children’s needs holistically.
• Effective communication skills with both adults and children.
