About the role
The Lab Technician position supports the daily activities of the local School of IT facilities under the direction of a Full Time Faculty member. The role involves assisting staff, faculty, and students with the operation of classroom IT and instructional equipment, and providing technical and user support.
Responsibilities
- Supports general hardware and software, printers, networking equipment, Microsoft servers, and related IT equipment.
- Assists staff, faculty, and students with the operation of classroom IT and instructional equipment.
- Provides technical and user support and guidance in a positive and cooperative manner.
- Maintains process documentation for all labs.
- Manages the hardware, including servers, PCs, projectors, and networking hardware in labs at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, the Columbus campus, the Franklin Campus, and at Columbus Signature Academy as needed.
- Provides student support during open lab hours and assists instructors during classes.
- Assists in moving equipment as assigned.
- Follows regular equipment maintenance schedules and follows preventative measures as instructed to reduce downtime.
Requirements
- AAS or higher in a computer-related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-starter and willing to learn on the fly.
Preferred Qualifications
- May substitute equivalent experience and/or certifications for degree.
- Proficient with current hardware and software technology.
- Professional experience preferred.
- Knowledge of SmartDeploy a plus.
- Any of the following certifications preferred: A+, Network+, CCNA, Security+, Microsoft Server certifications.

- Customer service and organizational skills.
- Written and oral communication skills.
- Discretion and confidentiality with access to sensitive data and local administrative access to all desktop equipment and data in the environment for the purpose of support.
- Physical capability to climb ladders and lift up to 30 pounds repeatedly.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.
