About the role

DCH Health System offers Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Services at both DCH Regional and Northport Medical Centers. The service specializes in the critical care of neonates and infants in units ranging from 21 beds at DCH Regional to 18 beds at Northport Medical Center. A multidisciplinary team including Neonatologists, Neonatal nurse practitioners, nurses, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists provide 24/7 care. Additional support services like speech therapists, lactation consultants, child life therapists, and social workers are also available.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, and directs quality, compassionate care by maintaining professional nursing standards and fostering positive therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Supervises LPNs, PCAs, PCAs/US, US, Ortho Techs, and other non-licensed staff.
  • Affirms patient and family education based on physical, behavioral, psychological, developmental, and age-related factors, addressing any barriers to learning.
  • Evaluates and regularly reassesses patient care; collaborates with patient, family, providers, and other disciplines to achieve patient-centered outcomes.
  • Assigns and delegates nursing care to team members according to patient needs and their capabilities.
  • Applies safety principles during care delivery and accurately documents observations, care provided, and changes in care plans.
  • Provides accurate handoff reports and participates in unit-based huddles.
  • Engages in performance improvement activities by serving on PI teams, assisting with PI measures, and implementing necessary changes for improvement.
  • Maintains initial and annual competency per job class.

Requirements

  • Current approved Alabama Board of Nursing RN license or ability to obtain prior to start.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider training required or obtain within 30 days of start date.
  • BSN preferred, minimum Associates required.
  • Ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Required within 6 months of start date: ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ACLS, NRP, Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, and PALS.
