Part-Time Research Technologist - Comparative
JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Comparative Medicine, in Hershey, PA seeks a part-time, project-oriented technologist to assist the veterinary and research staff with animal handling, treatments, and data acquisition for various research projects.
- Administer medications via different routes.
- Provide other forms of treatment per the clinical veterinarians’ direction.
- Record animal observations and experimental data.
- Utilize proper sterile techniques in handling medications, catheters, and medical equipment.
- Recognize changes in the proper function of biomedical equipment, monitor information, and take proper action to correct and notify appropriate support personnel as needed.
- Restrain animals for blood samples, catheter insertion, and other tests as needed.
- Maintain detailed, accurate records of animals, data, medications, intake, and output daily.
- Understand and follow verbal and written orders given by the Principal Investigators, Clinical Veterinarians, Research Support Specialists, and Facility Managers/Supervisors.
- Collect samples from animals and process as required by the project.
- React properly to and follow in-house procedures for handling alarms and power failures.
Requirements
- A high school diploma and at least 2 years of college-level coursework.
- Successfully complete the following clearances:
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse History
- Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Background Check
