Part-Time Registered Veterinary Technician or Veterinary Assistant

About the role

Animal Dermatopathology Clinic - Hawaii is seeking a part-time Registered Veterinary Technician or experienced Veterinary Assistant to join their team.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate excellent relations with clients/pets in the waiting area and exam rooms
• Exceed the client's expectations of service
• Care for patients with compassionate nursing care
• Perform housekeeping/maintenance duties
• Perform a cursory examination of an animal
• Recognize potential patient issues
• Communicate findings to a doctor
• Record keeping
• Fill prescriptions and dispense medications as prescribed by the doctor

Requirements

• Previous experience or training/education in a veterinary facility
• Friendly, outgoing, "people-oriented" personality
• Excellent communication skills
• Capable of being cross-trained for front office receptionist duties, with telephone and computer skills necessary
• Able to take initiative and be a team player willing to learn new techniques, accept change, and share ideas
• Willing to teach others and have an openness to diversity and adaptability to change
• Able to be accountable and see the big picture

• Phlebotomy
• Iv catheter placement
• Preparing and restraining animals during procedures
• Anesthetic induction and monitoring
• Assisting in surgery
• Suture cutaneous and subcutaneous tissues
• Apply bandages and/or splints
• Wound care
• Use of a stethoscope and otoscope
• Advise pet owners on proper care

Physical Requirements

• College or college-equivalent education as required in becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician
• Dependable attendance is required
• Able to lift 40 pounds
• Willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions
• The ability to walk, bend, stand, squat, or reach constantly during a minimum 8-hour day

Pay

$18 - $30 per hour
