Part-Time Reference Librarian

About the role

Part-time Reference Librarian position at a local educational institution in Flint, MI 48503. This is a contract/temporary role requiring approximately 16 hours per week, including weekend hours. The librarian provides reference and research assistance to students and staff both in person and virtually, and may also assist with library instruction sessions, collection development, and special projects.

Schedule

Anticipated weekly schedule: Tuesday 5.25 hours, Thursday 5.25 hours, Sunday 5.5 hours (total ~16 hours/week).

Pay

$20.50 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Provides reference service to students, faculty, staff, and others using print collections and a wide array of online information resources and databases; instructs and assists patrons in searching electronic and print resources.
• Orders books and materials for assigned subject areas.
• Serves as a liaison to assigned departments or divisions on campus to communicate library services, collections, and resources and to support faculty in assigned areas.
• Provides library orientations and instruction on library resources in coordination with other librarians or independently.
• Works on special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution.
• One year experience as an academic reference librarian.
• Knowledge of and facility with online library catalog systems, Internet reference resources, and other library resources.

Preferred Requirements

• Experience providing resources to students in distance learning environments.
