About the role

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is seeking a Part Time Recreation Assistant to join the team at Tom Sykes Recreation Center. This position will assist with the planning and facilitation of recreation programs and services for diverse populations, including after-school programs, school day out programs, fitness, youth and adult sports, senior adult programs, and front desk operations. The incumbent will also help build strong community partnerships.

The schedule for this role will consist of about 19 hours per week, which may include daytime hours, evenings, and rotating weekends based on facility and business needs. The preferred candidate should have experience with youth and afterschool programming and be available during traditional after-school times as well as evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service and handle funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, email, website, social media, and in-person interactions for information, program registration, center daily use, and rentals.
  • Ensure the safety of participants and spectators; administer first aid when necessary.
  • Enforce rules and regulations at facilities and programs.
  • Collect fees and process registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals.
  • Assist in light maintenance of facilities and recreational areas.
  • Serve as a referee, timekeeper, scorekeeper, or line-person at various sports activities.
  • Assist with recreational programs for all ages.
  • Handle inquiries and complaints from the public.
  • Assist with special events and field trips.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License with County Driving Privileges.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • General knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
