General Description
This is a seasonal position and is scheduled to work less than 1000 hours per fiscal year. A non-supervisory position with journeyman level responsibility for the performance of skilled manual labor, including the care and maintenance of property, drainage ditches, creeks and rough landscaping. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood I SERVE Core Values.
Examples Of Specific Work Performed
- Cut grass and weeds with gas powered push mowers, weed eaters and/or hand tools as appropriate
- Cut and trim hedges and trees with gas powered chain saws, pole saws and/or hand tools as appropriate
- Clean areas with brooms and powered blowers
- Pull trash, debris, fallen and cut trees from creeks and drainage areas with and without powered assistance
- Spray common herbicides using a backpack rig (3-5 gallon)
- Cleans out ditches and culverts
- Affords assistance to other employees in repairs and maintenance, including painting
- Drives city vehicle between work sites
- Performs other duties as assigned
Physical And Environmental Conditions
- Ability to sit, stand and drive a vehicle to and from various worksites
- Employee will be exposed to outdoors, and adverse or seasonal temperatures while performing maintenance duties and be exposed to potentially hazardous mechanical and chemical hazards
- Ability to lift materials weighing up to 75 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally
- Ability to bend, stoop, walk, push brooms, sweep and dig
- Ability to walk over sloped and uneven terrain
- Work involves getting dirty and wet, cutting grass and tree limbs
- Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes and odors
- Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with the public
- Ability to understand verbal and written communication
