About the role

This is a part-time, temporary position in the Academic Support Center. Southwest Tennessee Community College aims to employ part-time/professional tutors to provide learning support, course reinforcement, and coaching to students in one or more qualified subject areas. Tutors will provide tutoring sessions and/or perform front desk duties.

Responsibilities

  • Attend mandatory training sessions as required by CRLA.
  • Maintain tutoring records in TutorTrac software.
  • Be punctual and maintain work schedule.
  • Work well as a team member with students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Provide, plan, and facilitate study sessions to students as needed.
  • Communicate with supervisory personnel and instructors as needed.
  • Effectively communicate with students, faculty, and staff when visiting classes/offices on behalf of the ASC.
  • Work with in-house reference library including checking in and out textbooks and materials.
  • Assist students in troubleshooting computer-related questions (e.g., emails, course management systems, basic computer usage).
  • Effectively work with students from all socio-economic and psychosocial backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Must not be a current Southwest student.
  • Earned an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation.
  • Indicate at least two (2) subject areas in which you can tutor.
  • Have your instructor send a letter of recommendation to asc@southwest.tn.edu.

Skills

  • Provide one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, or online tutoring.
  • Answer questions relating to course content and offer study strategies to empower student success.
  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal form.
  • Work well with peers, staff, and faculty.
