About Our Church
Readington Reformed Church is a historic, close-knit congregation nestled in the peaceful farmland of Readington Township, New Jersey. Founded in 1719, our church has been a place of worship, fellowship, and community for more than three centuries. We gather each Sunday in our 1864 sanctuary, where generations before us have prayed, sung, and sought God together. We are a congregation who cares deeply for one another, for our neighbors, and for the mission of Jesus Christ in the world. Though modest in size, we are rich in spirit, history, and heart. After a long season of transition, we are entering a hopeful new chapter and seeking a pastor who will walk with us as we discern God's future for our church.
The Role
We are seeking a warm, spiritually grounded Part-Time Pastor to lead us in worship, provide pastoral care, and help us deepen our roots in faith and community. This role is ideal for someone who values relationships, finds joy in pastoral life, and is energized by guiding a devoted congregation with wisdom and compassion. This is a 20-hour-per-week position.
What You'll Do
- Lead Sunday worship services and occasional special services (Christmas, Easter, funerals, weddings as available)
- Provide personal pastoral care – visits, counseling, and presence in life's significant moments
- Guide and nurture Bible studies, discussion groups, and ministry events
- Work collaboratively with Consistory, lay leaders, and ministry committees
- Support outreach and cooperative ministry partnerships with neighboring churches
- Help us dream – and act – on ways to welcome new families and young people into our community
Who We're Looking For
- Ordained or eligible for ordination in the Reformed Church in America (RCA)
- Experienced in worship leadership, preaching, and pastoral care
- Genuinely relational – someone who remembers names, checks in, and shows up
- Comfortable with traditional worship while open to thoughtful, prayerful growth
- A collaborative partner who works with lay leaders rather than around them
- Open to engaging with the broader community, including families and neighbors who may be new to church life
- Conversational Spanish is helpful (not required), given the changing demographics of the surrounding area
Compensation & Benefits
We want to care well for the pastor who will care for us. Compensation is based on experience and follows RCA guidelines for part-time pastors. Below is the transparent breakdown of our 20-hour-per-week (50%) compensation package.
Salary (Cash Compensation): $36,425/year
- Base Salary: $32,625
- Social Security Offset (7.65%): $2,495.81
- Book Allowance: $150
- Continuing Education: $627
- Car/Travel Allowance: $1,000
Housing: Parsonage Provided: Yes (on-site, well-maintained, 3-bedroom historic home). Utilities: Not included. Housing Allowance Option: If the pastor does not live in the parsonage, a $2,000/month housing allowance is available.
Benefits (Estimated): $16,024/year
- Retirement (403b): $5,024.25
- Medical Insurance (Single Tier Estimate): $10,000
- Life Insurance: $500
- Long-Term Disability: $500
Medical, life, and disability premiums are placeholders until RCA Board of Benefits Services releases official 2026 rates.
Time Off: 4 weeks of vacation (including 2 paid weeks). Continuing education support included in compensation above.
Total Compensation Package: Salary $36,425 + Housing Parsonage Provided + Benefits $16,024 (estimated) = Total Package $52,922 + Parsonage
