About the Role
The Shop Floor Painter supports the EHS Team with the day-to-day upkeep, appearance, organization, and general maintenance of the shop floor and facility. This role performs painting, touch-up, surface preparation, line striping, and other facility upkeep activities to maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized manufacturing environment. The individual will work closely with EHS and Operations to identify areas requiring attention.
Responsibilities
- Perform painting and touch-up work throughout the manufacturing facility, including walls, floors, equipment, structures, doors, railings, and other designated surfaces.
- Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, scraping, grinding, masking, and removing old paint or coatings as required.
- Maintain and refresh shop floor markings, aisle markings, pedestrian walkways, safety zones, equipment locations, and other designated areas.
- Assist EHS with maintaining proper visual identification of safety areas, emergency equipment, exits, storage areas, and other safety-related locations.
- Support the upkeep of floors and other high-traffic areas to ensure they remain clean, visible, and properly maintained.
- Perform routine touch-up painting and address areas where paint has become damaged, worn, chipped, or faded.
- Work with EHS and Operations to identify areas of the facility requiring painting, repair, or general upkeep.
- Assist with facility preparation for audits, customer visits, inspections, and other company events.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area while performing assigned tasks.
- Properly operate and maintain painting equipment, hand tools, power tools, ladders, and other equipment necessary to perform the job.
- Safely handle, store, and dispose of paints, solvents, coatings, and other materials in accordance with company procedures and applicable EHS requirements.
- Follow all applicable safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Properly use and maintain PPE required for painting and facility maintenance activities.
- Communicate any unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, facility concerns, spills, or other EHS-related issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with general facility upkeep and EHS improvement projects as assigned.
- Maintain inventory of commonly used painting and maintenance supplies and notify the EHS Team when materials need to be replenished.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
EHS Responsibilities
- Follow all company and departmental EHS policies and procedures.
- Maintain awareness of hazards associated with paints, solvents, chemicals, equipment, and work areas.
- Properly use Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and follow applicable chemical handling requirements.
- Ensure work areas are properly barricaded or identified when painting or other maintenance activities create temporary hazards.
- Maintain proper housekeeping throughout the work area.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, spills, or environmental concerns to EHS or supervision.
- Participate in required safety training and maintain all required certifications.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous painting, industrial painting, facilities maintenance, or related experience preferred.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment is a plus.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools and basic power tools.
- Ability to read and follow basic instructions, safety procedures, and work orders.
- Basic understanding of surface preparation and paint application techniques.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple maintenance/upkeep tasks.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean and professional work environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with EHS, Operations, Maintenance, and other departments.
Preferred Experience
- Industrial or manufacturing painting experience.
- Experience with epoxy floor coatings and industrial paints.
- Experience with floor striping and safety markings.
- Experience with spray painting equipment.
- Experience working with EHS or Facilities teams.
- Familiarity with OSHA requirements and industrial safety practices.
- Experience with basic drywall, patching, caulking, or other facility upkeep tasks.

Working Conditions
Physical requirements include frequent close eye work, light work (standing, walking, lifting), and moderate work (lifting 15-30 pounds). Occasional sedentary work and moderately heavy work (lifting, moving, loading up to 35 pounds). Exposure to noise, noxious odors, and temperatures may occur.
