About the Role

The position involves coordinating medical and non-medical patient care activities for individuals with mental illness, including administering injections, phlebotomy, vital signs, medication education, and symptom management. The nurse works independently with limited supervision, documenting services accurately and maintaining confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA. This role requires providing patient education, preparing clients for assessments, and assisting with medication dispensing and specimen collection. The nurse must establish effective relationships, adhere to legal and organizational policies, and demonstrate professionalism and cultural sensitivity.

Responsibilities

  • Providing patient education and medication instruction.
  • Administering injections, collecting lab specimens, and recording data.
  • Monitoring symptoms, managing medications, and assisting with specimen processing.
  • Maintaining supplies, documentation, and compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Participating in team meetings, trainings, and community activities as needed.
  • Ensuring confidentiality, safety, and trauma-informed care in all interactions.
  • Performing other assigned duties, including filling in for staff and supporting performance measures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and valid Texas LVN or RN license.
  • At least 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
  • Knowledge of mental health, medications, and nursing principles.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to operate medical equipment, perform EKGs, draw blood, and record vital signs.
  • Effective in stressful situations, with a professional demeanor and cultural sensitivity.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including EHR, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation; driving required.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Moderate lifting, reaching, walking, standing, sitting, and operating equipment.
  • Travel required to various sites, including community and residential locations.
  • Work may involve working closely with others or independently in different settings.
