Part-Time News Writer/Editor - WBBM-AM

Responsibilities

• Oversight of the newsroom during a daypart
• Selecting sound to air during newscasts
• Writing and approving copy
• Cooking with the digital content team
• Creating rundowns
• Assigning audio to newscasts
• Bringing stories of interest to the attention of the manager on duty
• Working closely with anchors and reporters in preparing newscasts
• Leading the newsroom in the absence of the Managing Editor and the Director of News and Programming
• Coordinating coverage

Qualifications

• Excellent news judgment
• Familiarity with the Chicago news environment
• Ability to develop compelling local story angles
• Familiarity with broadcast style
• Strong ability to incorporate audio into written stories
• Excellent grammar and good spelling
• Able to use social media to gather news and promote newsroom content
• Understanding of legal guidelines governing broadcast media
• Excellent editorial judgment and deep understanding of current events, national politics, and local news
• Consistent friendly attitude and positive interaction
• Knowledge of local and corporate news policies, newsroom ethics, and practices
• Ability to alert management to questionable or potentially non-compliant content
• Willingness to suggest improvements for station operations
• Ability to learn and follow company policy and procedures
