Part Time Newborn Hearing Screening Technician

Are you interested in embarking on an important mission? Hearing loss is one of the most common birth defects in the US. Undetected hearing loss can lead to delays in speech and language development. Your role as a Newborn Hearing Screening Technician will ensure infants with hearing loss are identified at the time of birth and receive appropriate care. Hearing Screening Associates is a full-service company that offers an all-inclusive service for screening the hearing of newborn infants, covering everything from personnel and testing to equipment, reporting, and billing.

About the Role

This part-time position is based in a busy Newborn Nursery / NICU hospital setting at Temple Women & Families Hospital, 1331 E Wyoming Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19124.

Schedule

• 2-3 shifts per week, including both weekdays and weekends (must be available Sundays and Fridays)
• Shifts start at 7:30 AM
• Average shift length is 3-4 hours, may extend up to 6 hours depending on the number of babies needing testing
• Schedules are established quarterly; screenings occur 7 days a week, 365 days per year

Pay

• $20/hour + $1.00/hour weekend differential

Responsibilities

• Conduct newborn hearing screenings on all infants in the well baby and NICU units prior to discharge
• Coordinate post-discharge follow-up care as needed using appropriate procedures and computer technology
• Work directly with nursing staff, patients, and parents to communicate the relevance of hearing screening and early identification
• Analyze and communicate responses to problem situations in alignment with company and customer needs
• Maintain and use hearing screening equipment; assist with database management
• Interact with various hospital departments and perform duties in accordance with HSA, hospital, and department policies
• Uphold the code of conduct and compliance policies
• Upon training completion, demonstrate thorough knowledge of procedural variables and instrumentation for Transient Otoacoustic Emissions and/or Automatic Auditory Brainstem Response technology
• Perform all other assigned duties

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required
• One (1) or more years of healthcare or childcare training/experience, or related college curriculum is a plus
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to function independently in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment
• Ability to attend all company-provided training
• Willingness and ability to learn and operate hearing screening equipment

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand for a complete shift (2-6 hours depending on hospital size)
• Push and pull screening cart
• Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times

Employment Contingencies

• Willingness to submit a background check for a 7-year history
• Willingness to undergo a drug test
• Verifiable prior employment including title and dates of hire
• Bloodwork required to verify immunization titers
• Provide vaccination record upon hire and willingness to receive updated vaccinations, including COVID and flu vaccination confirmation as required by the hospital
