About the Role

The Newborn Hearing Screening Technician performs hearing screens on newborn infants, provides education to parents about the relevance of hearing screening and early intervention, and records patient information and hearing screen results. The technician conducts these screenings prior to patient discharge, supporting patient care goals and objectives in a busy Newborn Nursery/NICU setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct newborn hearing screenings on all infants in the well‑baby and NICU units prior to discharge.
  • Coordinate post‑discharge follow‑up care as needed using appropriate procedures and computer technology.
  • Work directly with nursing staff, patients, and parents to communicate the relevance of hearing screening and early identification.
  • Analyze and communicate responses to problem situations in line with company and customer needs.
  • Maintain and use hearing screening equipment; assist with database management.
  • Interact with various hospital departments and perform duties in accordance with HSA, hospital, and departmental policies.
  • Uphold the code of conduct and compliance policies.
  • After training, possess thorough knowledge of procedural variables and instrumentation for Transient Otoacoustic Emissions and/or Automatic Auditory Brainstem Response technology.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One (1) or more years of healthcare or childcare training/experience, or related college curriculum (a plus).
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to function independently in a high‑paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to attend all company‑provided training.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and operate hearing screening equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk and stand for a complete shift (2–6 hours depending on hospital size).
  • Push and pull screening cart.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.

Employment Contingencies

  • Willingness to submit a background check covering a 7‑year history.
  • Verifiable prior employment including title and dates of hire.
  • Willingness to undergo a drug test.
  • Bloodwork required to verify immunization titers.
  • Provide vaccination record upon hire and willingness to receive updated vaccinations, including COVID‑19 and flu, as required by the hospital.

Location

Northern Westchester Hospital (formerly Northwell Health) in Mt. Kisco, NY.

Pay

$18.00 per hour plus a $1.00 per hour weekend differential.

Schedule

Monday and Sunday availability each week, with PRN (as needed) shifts that may include weekdays, weekends, and occasional holidays. Shifts start at 8 AM, generally averaging 2–5 hours per day, for approximately 10 hours per week.
