About the role

Join a mission to identify hearing loss in newborns—one of the most common birth defects in the U.S. Undetected hearing loss can delay speech and language development. As a Newborn Hearing Screening Technician, you will ensure infants with hearing loss are identified at birth and receive appropriate care. This part-time position is based in busy Newborn Nursery and NICU hospital settings.

Schedule

2–3 shifts per week, including weekends, weekdays, and holidays, averaging 10–15 hours per week. Schedules are established quarterly, and the role operates 7 days a week, 365 days per year.

Pay

$17.50 per hour with a $1.00 per hour weekend differential.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct newborn hearing screenings on all infants in well-baby and NICU units prior to hospital discharge.
  • Coordinate post-discharge follow-up care as needed using appropriate procedures and computer technology.
  • Work directly with nursing staff, patients, and parents to communicate the importance of hearing screening and early identification.
  • Analyze and address problem situations in alignment with company and customer needs.
  • Maintain and operate hearing screening equipment, assist with database management.
  • Interact with various hospital departments while adhering to HSA, hospital, and departmental policies.
  • Uphold the code of conduct and compliance policies.
  • After training, demonstrate thorough knowledge of procedural variables and instrumentation for Transient Otoacoustic Emissions and/or Automatic Auditory Brainstem Response technology.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One or more years of healthcare or childcare experience, or related college coursework, is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to function independently in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and operate hearing screening equipment.
  • Must attend all company-provided training.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk and stand for 2–6 hours per shift, depending on hospital size.
  • Push and pull a screening cart.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Employment Contingencies

  • Clear seven-year background check, including criminal history and education verification.
  • Verifiable prior employment, including job titles and dates of hire.
  • Must pass a drug test and background check with favorable results.
  • Bloodwork required to verify immunization titers.
  • Provide vaccination records upon hire and willingness to receive updated vaccinations, including COVID and flu, as required by the hospital.
