Part Time Newborn Hearing Screening Technician

Hearing Screening Associates is a full-service company offering comprehensive newborn hearing screening services, including personnel, testing, equipment, reporting, and billing. This part-time role is based in a busy Newborn Nursery/NICU hospital setting at NY Presbyterian Westchester (Lawrence) in Bronxville, NY.

About the role

As a Newborn Hearing Screening Technician, you will play a critical role in identifying hearing loss in infants at birth, ensuring timely intervention and support for speech and language development. We screen babies 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with schedules established quarterly. Extensive training will be provided to ensure thorough knowledge of procedures and instruments.

Responsibilities

• Conduct newborn hearing screenings on all infants in well-baby and NICU units prior to hospital discharge, coordinating post-discharge follow-up care as needed using appropriate procedures and computer technology.
• Work directly with nursing staff, patients, and parents to communicate the importance of hearing screening and early identification for positive outcomes.
• Analyze and address problem situations in alignment with company and customer needs.
• Maintain and operate hearing screening equipment, assist with database management, and interact with various hospital departments.
• Perform duties in accordance with HSA, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures.
• Uphold the code of conduct and compliance policies.
• Apply knowledge of Transient Otoacoustic Emissions and/or Automatic Auditory Brainstem Response technology after completing required training.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
• One or more years of healthcare or childcare experience, or related college coursework, is a plus.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, occasionally stressful environment.
• Willingness and ability to learn and operate hearing screening equipment.
• Ability to attend all company-provided training.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand for 2–6 hours per shift, depending on hospital size.
• Push and pull a screening cart.
• Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Employment Contingencies

• Willingness to submit a background check covering a 7-year history.
• Verifiable prior employment, including job titles and dates of hire.
• Willingness to undergo a drug test.
• Bloodwork to verify immunization titers.
• Provide vaccination records upon hire and willingness to receive updated vaccinations, including COVID and flu, as required by the hospital.

Schedule

Alternating weekends and weekday availability preferred, with a daily start time of 8 AM. Shifts average 2–4 hours daily, totaling approximately 4–8 hours per week.

Pay

$19.00 per hour, plus a $1.00 per hour weekend differential.
