About the role
East Elementary School is seeking a Part Time Music Prep Paraprofessional to work 22 hours per week. This position will remain open until filled.
Responsibilities
- Teach music education to pupils in grades K-5 under the supervision of the School Principal
- Assist the staff of the school in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction
- Help pupils grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences including singing, moving to music, playing of instruments, and listening
- Provide instructional support assistance to students and student groups
- Participate in the development, maintenance and carrying out of systems for classroom management
- Guide students in working and interacting harmoniously with other students
- Operate various types of office equipment such as computers, copy machines, etc.
- Comply with established district policies and procedures
- Teach skills in music understanding/appreciation, harmony, explorations in music and choral music to elementary pupils
- Plan/execute a balanced music program and organize class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time
- Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each pupil
- Encourage students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible
- Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils
- Maintain care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse
- Make minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required
- Evaluate each pupil's musical growth, performance, and musical understanding
- Assess each individual's contribution to the performance of the group
- Select appropriate music, books and instructional aides to enhance learning and requisition musical instruments and instructional supplies as necessary
- Coordinate with School Principal and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings, and seasonal programs
- Utilize the course study prescribed by the District approved curriculum that will enable the students to demonstrate a positive learning attitude, develop social skills and ethical responsibility, and demonstrate responsible emotional and cognitive behaviors
Qualifications
- Regular, reliable, predictable attendance and job performance is required
- Must have basic computer knowledge, be familiar with Google docs and check email frequently
- Must be willing to learn and use all computer systems and software as needed
