Join the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County as a Part-Time Middle School Literacy Program Coordinator, representing the coalition countywide and working in-person at our Blume Literacy Center in Boynton Beach.
About the Organization
In Palm Beach County, nearly half of all third graders are not reading on grade level, and 22.2% of adults lack basic literacy skills. Through extensive outreach and collaboration with community partners, the Literacy Coalition strives to ensure individuals who need to improve their literacy skills receive the help they need. This year, the coalition provided services to more than 55,716 adults, children, and families through 8 programs in 173 sites across the county. Programs include:
- Teaching adults with low literacy skills in the workplace and community centers
- Partnering with pediatricians to introduce low-income families to the importance of reading with their children
- Providing reading partners who share books weekly with three-year-old children
- Overseeing a home visiting program that encourages verbal interaction and educational play between parents and preschool children
- Coordinating up to 30 Literacy AmeriCorps members as tutors for children and adults and as graduation coaches for struggling high school students
- Supporting and encouraging literacy programs and initiatives throughout the county
Responsibilities
- Implement and manage the pilot middle school component of the Building Better Readers program
- Analyze and adapt the pilot program to best meet the needs of school partners and the community
- Recruit and support school and community partners
- Coordinate the placement and scheduling of volunteer tutors and students
- Communicate regularly with school liaisons, parents, volunteers, and community stakeholders
- Schedule and facilitate volunteer training and ongoing support
- Manage volunteer training, assignment, scheduling, and retention of middle school tutors in schools and afterschool programs
- Maintain volunteer records and track volunteer hours
- Collect, organize, and analyze program data to evaluate effectiveness
- Conduct site visits at school and afterschool locations throughout Palm Beach County
- Coordinate books, curriculum materials, and program resources

Schedule
Generally 24 hours per week, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend hours.
