Part-Time Middle School Food Service Worker

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals, including home-style entrees, fresh fruits, and vegetables.
  • Assist in daily food prep tasks such as chopping, cutting, heating, and assembling menu items.
  • Cook and serve pizzas at the middle and high school levels.
  • Prepare salads, sandwiches, and wraps for students and staff.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, safety, and sanitation in compliance with IDOE and health department regulations.
  • Run, clean and maintain dish machine, garbage disposals, 3 compartment sink.
  • Be trained and taught on various kitchen equipment, to use and clean correctly.
  • Complete a minimum of six hours of professional training per year as required.
  • Help receive, stock, and manage inventory upon delivery and help counting month end inventory.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work space and serving area.
  • Mopping and Sweeping floors, cleaning counters and walls, possibly helping in the dish room as well as putting the dishes away.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure efficient meal service.

Qualifications

  • Previous food service experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle food safely.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Willingness to complete required training and adhere to food safety guidelines.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds, anything over 30 pounds requires two people to lift safely.

Work Schedule

  • Positions range from 4 to 8 hours per day, again always extra time on delivery day and end of month inventory.
  • Monday through Friday, following the school calendar.
  • Extra time is available on breaks and thru the summer for various reasons, such as meal prep or our SFSP program but it is not mandated.
  • 183 day schedule includes 2 days before school starts for training/ getting kitchens ready and inventory put away and helping to cater the back to school breakfast hosted at the MS.
  • The day after school ends is for the end of year breakfast that we also cater and cleaning the kitchen for the summer break.
  • 4 E-learning days are for meal prep, kitchen cleaning and professional training.
  • Fall Break, Christmas Break, Spring Break are not required to work but work is available on a volunteer bases to do prep work for scratch cooked recipes as well as cleaning and organizing the kitchen.
  • Summer Break is not required but the Summer Food Service Program is available and will need personal to volunteer to work.

Attire

  • Must wear clean jeans, capris, legging with no hole in the clothing (If legging are worn your shirt must cover your behind).
  • Kid Friendly T-shirts, or the shirts that are handed out.
  • Can wear a baseball cap instead of a hair net.
  • Slip resistant shoes are mandatory, the school will purchase one pair a year through a Skechers program. If you have special needs for footwear, the school will reimburse up to $75.00.
