Washington and Lee University Dining Services has multiple part-time positions available across five retail restaurants, one all-you-care-to-eat facility, and a scratch bakery department. These roles offer flexible scheduling to suit various skill sets and availability.
Responsibilities
- Performs food preparation according to departmental standards.
- Follows ServSafe guidelines regarding food preparation and service.
- Adheres to uniform dress code.
- Follows inventory and stocking system; ensures supplies are properly stored and organized in workstation areas.
- Participates in the setup, service, and breakdown of assigned work areas and catered events.
- Clears remaining food, beverages, or serving items, and washes dishes as needed.
- Maintains cash register, handling cash, credit cards, and University ID transactions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- ServSafe certification or willingness to acquire within a year of employment.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written directions and provide responses in writing.
- Ability to use computers to read and respond to emails and to use basic applications.
- Must be committed to following departmental standards and guidelines to ensure the safety of self and others.
- Must be able to pass an extensive background check.
Physical Requirements
- Fine Motor Manipulation: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working primarily with fingers.
- Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or between work sites.
- Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force.
- Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects.
- Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally; requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
Working Conditions
- Activities occur both inside and outside.
- Exposure to hazards, including moving mechanical parts, vehicles, electrical current, high heat, chemicals, and oils.
- Type of Work: Medium work—exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
Schedule
- Shifts are available based on Dining Services needs, including day, evening, and weekend shifts.
- Part-time, non-benefit eligible position with a maximum of 29 hours per week and fewer than 999 hours per anniversary year.
- Hours are not guaranteed at 29 per week; schedules vary based on venue needs.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $17.75–$18.10 per hour. Offers are based on qualifications and relevant experience.
