Part-Time Microbiology Instructors

About the role

Part-Time faculty are an integral part of the College’s staff, helping provide all learners with the highest quality learning opportunities when, where and how they want it. Upon successful submission of your application, you will be considered for future part-time faculty opportunities in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math.

Courses are delivered in a variety of formats, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends in classrooms or science labs. Flexibility in schedule is required for day, night, or weekend classes as needed.

Class start dates and times for Spring 2026 in-person courses:

• January 24, 2026 – May 16, 2026 – Saturday 7:30am-2:15pm
• January 20, 2026 – May 19, 2026 – Tuesday 5:30pm-8:20pm & Thursday 5:30pm-9:15pm

Summer 2026 in-person courses will be scheduled in morning, afternoon, and evening time slots.

Unofficial transcripts must be submitted for instructor certification eligibility review.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction and assessment of learning outcomes.
• Utilize engaging instructional strategies and methodologies which foster student success both in and outside of the classroom.
• Maintain accurate student records and communication.
• Advise and support students as a mentor and role model in the achievement of their learning and career goals, including being accessible to students outside of scheduled classroom time.
• Provide educational leadership and work effectively with faculty, administration, and campus support staff.
• Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation.
• Comply with College policies and practices related to instruction, assessment, and delivery.
• Manage the instructional process, including course preparation, student attendance records, student assessment, grading, and electronic communication with students and staff.
• Post final grades within 72 hours of course completion.
• Maintain curriculum rigor in alignment with state requirements.
• Work effectively with Microbiology faculty and department team members.
• Demonstrate behaviors and actions that support student recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
• Demonstrate behaviors and actions that support the College’s values and create respectful environments for collaboration.

Course Description: History, morphology, physiology, nutritional growth requirements, metabolism, methods of identification. Focus on disease-causing microorganisms, appropriate prevention, treatment, control mechanisms. Specific/non-specific host defense mechanisms, applications of immunology examined.

Requirements

• Master's degree and a combination of 18 graduate/undergraduate credits in Microbiology or related subfield. Transcripts must identify at least 9 graduate/undergraduate credits in Microbiology (i.e., the instructional discipline) and another 9 graduate/undergraduate credits in the related discipline.
• Examples of qualifying disciplines include, but are not limited to:
  • Microbiology
  • Genetics
  • Immunology
• Minimum of one year (2,000 hours) of paid occupational experience outside the field of education, preferably in Microbiology/Immunology in a hospital or medical setting.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
• Canvas knowledge is beneficial.
• Previous teaching experience with adult learners is preferred.

• Mobility: Ability to move around the campus to attend meetings and events.
• Manual dexterity: Proficiency in using hands and fingers to handle or operate office equipment, tools, or controls.
• Visual and auditory: Ability to read documents and communicate effectively with students and staff.
• Light lifting: Capability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Pay

$45.00 per class hour contracted.
