About the Department
The Journalism Department in the College of Liberal Arts offers a professional degree program that allies practice with theory leading to a B.S. in Journalism. Graduates are prepared for careers in digital, print and broadcast journalism as well as public relations and media innovation. Journalism graduates also enter such fields as social media management, television production, advertising, marketing, law and public administration. Journalism students run the campus newspaper and its website and social and mobile platforms, operate the FM radio and TV stations and direct a public relations agency.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related discipline
- Extensive professional media or public relations experience
Qualifications
Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background.
- Preferred: Master's degree and previous college teaching experience
Pay
As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507–$6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221–$13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825–$14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593–$15,221
Schedule
Positions are available as determined by need and funding during Fall and/or Spring semesters of the 2026–2027 academic year, which begins August 17, 2026.
Special Conditions
- Due to CSU policies, the person hired must reside in the state of California at the time of hire and for the entirety of the appointment.
- All CSU employees are designated "mandated reporters" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083.
- Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before starting work.
