Responsibilities
- Sizes, marks, alters, and repairs clothing.
- Repairs or replaces defective garment parts such as elastic waist bands, pockets, pocket flaps, and coat linings.
- Shortens or lengthens sleeves or legs; expands or narrows waist and chest; raises or lowers collar; and sets sleeves to armholes.
- Resews garment, using needle and thread or sewing machine.
- Maintains adequate stock of clothing, towels, under garments and bedding supplies.
- Maintains safety procedures of equipment and working area.
- Operates one or more industrial washing machines to wash linens, garments, towels, and other articles.
- Operates valves, switches, and levers to start and stop the washing machines.
- Controls the amount and temperature of water for the soaping and rinsing of each batch.
- Loads and unloads the washer and drying machines.
- Operates switches, and levers to start and stop the drying machines.
- Controls the time and temperature of each drying machine according to cloth material.
- Folding and sorting clean clothing and linens and other articles according to requirements.
- Ensures proper distribution in accordance with the facility laundry exchange schedule.
- Completes work in a priority established by the Laundry Lead or facility need.
Qualifications
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID prior to start date.
- Experience preferred in large scale laundry/tailor operation.
- Must be able to operate industrial laundry washing machines, dryers, and sewing machines.
- Must be able to follow Standard Codes of Conduct pertaining to interaction with staff and detainees.
- Work areas will include laundry room and detention areas. Areas may be hot and humid. Laundry/tailor may be exposed to hot equipment and wet floors. May be exposed to industrial chemicals and solvents that are used in the laundry area.
- Frequently near mechanically active equipment.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to pass extensive background investigation and drug testing.
- Random drug testing will be performed.
Physical Capabilities
- Ability to walk through all areas of the facility for tours of duty in varied and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, sit, walk, and bend for extended periods of time.
- Ability to respond quickly during emergency situations, including jogging and fast walking to incident.
- Ability to work without restrictions and limitations:
- Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to push a laundry cart loaded with clothing, linen, towels, under garments and other articles.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, reach, and climb stairs, ladders, and slopes periodically.
- Strictly maintain physical fitness standards throughout your employment under this contract.
- Must be capable of performing CPR and rendering first aid assistance when needed.
