Job Responsibilities
- Wash utensils, dishes, and all surfaces used in food preparation and service.
- Prepare cleaning solutions following established protocols and verify pH levels.
- Check and record the temperature of food items, the dishwasher, and the refrigerator using official logs.
- Absorb dietary restrictions, allergies, and individual nutrition needs.
- Ensure proper portioning and timely meal service aligned with classroom schedules.
- Receive and store food items, ensuring compliance with sanitation and health regulations.
- Maintain proper food storage, labeling, and rotation (FIFO).
- Support the cleaning and organization of refrigerators, including disposal of expired products.
- Maintain overall kitchen cleanliness, including dishwashing and sanitizing surfaces and equipment.
- Manage food inventory, supplies, and ordering for Siembra Montessori.
- Receive deliveries and verify the quality and accuracy of food items.
- Organize and restock kitchen supplies.
- Minimize food waste and maintain cost-effective practices.
- Collaborate with Montessori staff to align meal service with children’s routines and classroom needs.
- Collaborate effectively with staff and families, respecting cultural diversity.
Requirements
- Current Food Handling and/or Food Manager certification, or willingness to obtain it upon hire.
- Pediatric First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain it upon hire.
- Compliance with DHS Rule 3 and successful completion of a background check.
- Knowledge of CACFP guidelines and/or willingness to learn and implement them.
- Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling practices.
- Ability to independently manage kitchen operations and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Experience with menu planning and basic nutrition for early childhood.
- Ability to maintain accurate records (temperature logs, inventory, meal counts).
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with families and staff from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Commitment to the mission, vision, and goals of Centro Tyrone Guzmán and Montessori philosophy.
- Deep understanding of and appreciation for Latine cultures.
- Understanding and/or experience working with the Latine LGBTQ+ community.
- Knowledge of issues affecting immigrant Latine communities, including generational and cultural differences, educational barriers, social determinants of health, impacts of immigration status, trauma, and domestic or community violence.
- Commitment to working with Latine communities in a culturally sensitive and relevant environment with a genuine desire to make a positive impact.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods of time.
