Part-Time Instructional Support Specialist

Position Summary

This position provides frontline support to faculty, students, and other visitors, both in-person and virtually, ensuring the effective use of educational technologies, including the college’s learning management system and related tools.

Essential Job Duties

• Provide frontline departmental coverage and both physical and virtual instructional support to faculty, students, and other visitors.
• Support and direct departmental guests and inquiries as appropriate, providing additional support after hours, on weekends, and during peak times as needed.
• Facilitate instructor or student training and other programming as directed.
• Afford assistance with content development as assigned.
• Make presentations or provide training at OTC locations, other venues, and virtually as requested.
• Handle special projects as assigned.
• Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe, professional manner with minimal supervision.
• Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
• Comply with college policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including attending departmental or college functions, serving on committees, and attending community events.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Achieved or currently pursuing an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
• Ability to identify and support the needs of learners and instructors.
• At least one year of experience working with a learning management system such as Canvas, Blackboard, or other.
• Experience with online classes and familiarity with instructional technologies.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in using information technology for professional productivity (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
• Experience with online teaching and the use of a learning management system.
• Familiarity with additional educational technologies such as Teams or online proctoring tools.
• Prior experience in a higher education setting or providing faculty or student support.
• Experience delivering training programs.
