Salary Grade: Z03 – Z05 starting at $18.11 per hour. Reports to Building Administrator. Non-exempt position.
About the role
Work with classroom teachers to effectively plan, coordinate, and carry out child development activities. Support teachers in instructing children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for elementary school.
Responsibilities
- Work with teachers in team teaching, team planning, and daily routines.
- Provide small group and circle time instruction to assigned children.
- Understand, support, and assist in implementing and communicating the Project Construct Curriculum with children and their parents.
- Assist in preparing crafts, art, sensory materials, and snacks for children.
- Work cooperatively with parents and other classroom volunteers.
- Accompany teachers on home visits and assist in establishing support with families.
- Participate in program planning committees and parent involvement activities.
- Attend orientation and in-service training sessions; serve as group leader when needed.
- Plan individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills (e.g., learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, using play equipment).
- Instruct children in personal cleanliness and self-care.
- Alternate periods of strenuous activity with rest and light activity to avoid over-stimulation and fatigue of students.
- Help children develop habits of caring for their own clothing and picking up toys and books.
- Perform Administrative Case Management duties to inform students and families about accessing and maintaining participation in health resources under the Federal Medicaid program.
Requirements
- 60 college hours with a minimum grade point average of 2.5.
- Missouri state substitute teacher certification.
- Knowledge of the Project Construct Curriculum.
- Skills in working with children and their parents.
- Desire to work with elementary-grade children.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three years of successful experience working with elementary school children and their parents.
- Coursework in childhood education.
Schedule
- In person; 5 days per week; 205 days per year; 24 hours per week.
- Work hours: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
